About The Baratza Sette 270 Grinder

The Sette 270 is an inexpensive, premium grinder to improve your espresso journey and is suitable for basic and advanced espresso machines. The Sette 270 offers 30 responsive macro-adjustments plus 9 marked settings of seamless micro-adjustments. This feature allows you to dial in your shots time after time. This grinder incorporates the S1 burr, which provides a broad grind range for multiple brewing experiences (for example, AeroPress, Hario V60, and most Automatic Brewers) and creates a very balanced flavor experience. Its one-of-a-kind gearbox technology provides near-zero retention and a quick-accessible cleaning and maintenance process. This grinder has a built-in stationary device holder that allows you to remove and re-orient the arms to grind directly into the supplied grounds bin, a portafilter, or into most popular brewing devices – a standout feature amongst all other home grinders. The Sette 270 sets a new standard in simplicity, efficiency, and durability.

Tech Specs For The Coffee Nerds Among Us

Burrs

Manufactured by Etzinger in Liechtenstein, the Sette 270 is built with 40mm steel conical S1 burrs, which are designed to give a grind profile that is exceptional for espresso and good for brew methods requiring a finer grind (e.g. AeroPress, Hario V60, and most Automatic Brewers).

The Sette 270 grinds 3.5 to 5.5 grams per second, depending on the roast and the grind setting. The burrs are durable and will remain sharp for many years.

Digital Control Panel

The front-mounted control panel with a backlit LED display is user-friendly. Save your preferred doses with three programmable buttons that allow for grind time setting within 0.1 second. Just press the start button, and the Sette automatically delivers precise dosing.

Grind Adjustment

The Sette has a macro adjust of 30 steps, grinding from espresso to manual brew. The macro/micro mechanism is directly connected to the cone burr resulting in immediate and correct grind adjustment.

Convertible Device Holder

A built-in convertible holder allows you to grind directly into your portafilter, the supplied grounds bin, or most of the popular brewing devices. The Sette’s grounds bin is made from anti-static plastic, with a molded spout for easy pouring into your preferred brewing device. The portaholder can accommodate any size of portafilter and includes an integrated hook for stability.

Hopper

The hopper holds approximately 300-400g (10 oz) of coffee. An innovative bean shut-off feature in the collar permits no-mess, no-fuss hopper removal for changing out beans.

Minimal Retention

To maximize freshness, the Sette minimizes the ground coffee left in the grinder.

Brewing Methods

The Sette 270 is exceptional for all brewing methods, from espresso to manual brew.

Motor

A powerful, high torque DC motor drives the Sette. The circuitry is equipped with an automatically resetting, thermal cutoff switch.

Dimensions

The Sette Series is designed with a small footprint (like our other models) that fits under standard kitchen cabinets. (13W x 40H x 24D cm)

Cleaning

The cone burr is easily removable with no tools, making cleaning very easy.

Since our inception, fast free shipping has been one of our tenants as a company.  So it took a long time for me to come to a decision to eliminate the free portion of that sentence.  I know we all want free, so taking that away is putting a lot of trust in you guys to be able to understand my reasoning and trust my math.  I'm going to list a few reasons I moved away from the free shipping model all-together below.  I'd love to hear from you if you think this is a bad decision or if you appreciate me putting the shipping cost decisions in your hands.

Our Latest Analysis of April - July 2020 Deliveries Shows:

USPS:  Average Delivery is about 4 days, ~2% are taking longer than 9 days

FedEx: Average Delivery is about 3.25 days, 0.5% are taking longer than 7 days

Free is Never Really Free

Full disclosure, free shipping isn't really free shipping.  I am paying to ship you your coffee, so you're either paying for it buried in the price of the coffee beans or at the end at checkout.  I think the psychology of free shipping is that you don't end up at the checkout and find out that you need to spend another 30% to get your items.  That's a very real thing and I hope to have a simple pricing model to help you avoid that sticker shock.  Before I get there, let me tell you what I used to do.  It used to cost me about $9.00 to ship 5lbs of coffee (USPS just raised their prices...again).  So what I did was add $1.80 to each pound as I calculated the selling price.  I then had $5 shipping for under $35 orders to try to drive the customer (you) to buy about 5lbs of coffee and make the math work.

There have been several flaws with this model.  First off, it made the cost per lb look like we're WAY more expensive than other green coffee resellers in the market.  Second, it really stops working when someone orders less than 5lbs and more than 5lbs, because the cost to ship 5lbs-30lbs per pound is much less than $1.80/lb.  So it kind of narrowed our market.  Third, we have recently been able to negotiate even better rates with FedEx and blown up the $1.80/lb model.  We can now do a 2-day Padded Pak at an amazing rate and fit 10lbs in it.  THe irony of a free shipping model is that it is less transparent.  If I'm going to be completely transparent with my cost model, then you'll recognize a good deal when you see it and we're all happier.  Transparency makes the whole sales process work better.

So we now include our pricing without shipping and add it on at the end.  To help you optimize your buying experience our shipping pricing is listed below.
